Have you had any "fun" conversations over the holiday season?
You know, the sort of conversations that make you wonder if what you're experiencing is real. Cause it can't be. People can't really go that far with their replies, can they?
I will tell you about two conversations I've had.
First. At my place. I told her how the next step in my life would be to get a job in the UK and move there. Her reply was " well... the thing about the UK... sounds like... I mean it sounds like a nice dream".
Everything in her expression was... not encouraging. I didn't feel discouraged at all because I'm aware how we all have different perspectives. And I know how personal experiences shape our point of view. And sadly, she hasn't had the best. But I also saw how that reply could have made someone else feel silly.
Second talk.
Same topic. But this time at my dad's, talking with a relative who lived in London for 5 years. You'd think he'd believe in the possibility since he had experienced it, right? Well, wrong.🤣
I couldn't intervene much, and at some point I didn't want to anymore. Cause what followed was a Ted Talk about how you need serious studies, work experience and qualifications to be considered by the Brits. Fully agree. But he wasn't there.
